This month, Agni Animal Welfare Fund is celebrating 20 years as a UK registered charity. Look out for a special week of Facebook posts starting  24th August as we look back through the archives at some of the cats we have helped over the years.

Thank you for your continued support. Every donation you make directly helps the small team of volunteers who work tirelessly to care for Corfu’s most vulnerable cats. Here is a look at what your generosity has made possible this quarter.

Gouvia Beach – A Difficult Rescue

A familiar cat on Gouvia beach was taken to the vet after tourists raised concerns. He suffers from recurring cat flu, is neutered, has FIV, and has no teeth. Volunteer Nicola checks on him every few days. Unfortunately, he becomes extremely distressed when caged and refuses to eat, so after treatment he must always be released back to his beach territory. Thanks to your donations, he receives medical care whenever he needs it, even though he cannot be rehomed.

Gouvia Beach – Positive Progress

Nicola has also been out neutering in Danilia. 3 cats successfully neutered so far, but they are proving very difficult to trap, so this is taking time.

Volunteers are currently supporting several mother cats raising kittens in the area. When the kittens are old enough, they will be trapped and neutered. One kitten has already required veterinary treatment for an infected insect bite. Agni is supplying all the food for the feeding pipes, ensuring every cat receives regular meals.

Kittens in Need – A Growing Challenge

Dassia Bakery Three tiny kittens were abandoned outside a bakery. One has already found a loving home, while the remaining two are being cared for by volunteer Georgia.

Kato Korakiana Feeding Station Another three kittens were left at one of the feeding stations. With shelters full and no available foster space, they remain at the station under volunteer supervision.

Ano Korakiana Feeding Station Yet another three kittens were abandoned. Georgia has taken these into her care and is providing round‑the‑clock support.

Volunteer Updates

Georgia

Georgia rescued Pogo from Barbati after he was found unable to bear weight on his front paw. He has had X‑rays and is now on cage rest to recover.

She is also caring for a black‑and‑white cat recovering from two hernia operations. In recent months, Georgia has taken five cats for sterilisation, preventing future suffering and reducing the stray population.

Chris

Chris responded to a call from visitors staying at a villa in Nisaki who wished to adopt a local cat and take him to the UK. Thanks to Chris, the cat is now safe and on his way to a new life.

Victoria

Victoria is currently caring for five kittens and two mums dumped inside a building. She had to use a step ladder to reach them after a passer‑by heard their cries.

She also rescued Hector, found alone on the roadside between Roda and Kassiopi. He has settled happily into his new home with Uncle Timmy the cat.

Victoria has taken three more young cats for sterilisation and rescued a mum and two kittens in Paleokastritsa—both kittens had severe eye infections and will sadly lose an eye, but they are now safe and receiving treatment.

Another cat suffering from a severe flea allergy was also rescued by Victoria. A Manuka honey‑based treatment has helped soothe her skin and start her recovery.

Your Support Makes This Possible

Every rescue, every sterilisation, every meal, and every veterinary bill is funded by people like you. Agni Animal Welfare is run entirely by volunteers who give their time, energy, and compassion freely—but they can only act because your donations provide the resources.

Thank you for standing with us and helping the cats of Corfu live safer, healthier lives.
